update on Patton.

Patton has now gained a total of 14lbs. and should be released from the hospital soon!! Dr. Angel retested his bloodwork and the results were good and he is no longer needing IV fluids. He is keeping a good appetite and making progress each day. The bad news: Patton will have to have both of his eyes removed rendering him completely blind. After much thought and consideration in the matter, EBRN decided that after having fought so hard to bring him back to from the brink of death, the only option was to continue saving his life despite the fact that saving his sight was not an option. EBRN considered the fact that being blind may not be a great quality of life for Patton, but based on the severity of his eyes, he was pretty much blind already due to lack of nutrition. He eyes basically collapsed in the sockets. Please continue to keep Patton in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to fight to get back to a healthy state. Patton has been in the care of Dr. Angel for going on 2 weeks now.

Update on Patton He has gained 10 pounds already !! is is now 44 pounds. He's still on IV's and the Dr. may repeat blood work today, but we won't know until later. He is still weak, but thankfully, he is gaining strength everyday. Can't wait to bring him home. Thank You ALL who have donated to his care. I did receive a donation for a dog bed as well so he will have one waiting for him when he gets home. Thank You again !!!!!

a heartbreaking story and a special request from ebrn..

Each dog that comes into the rescue has a need but sometimes we come across a special case such as this. This poor emaciated boy was found living outside being starved to death, literally! He is currently being treated at Dr. Angels vet hospital receiving what we hope will be life saving care. If there was ever a desperate need for donations to help save a life, this is the time to help.

We call him General Patton or "Patton" for short. We were notified about this boy on 1/2/2014. He was taken Immediately to our vet, and quite honestly, unsure if he was going to make it.. He is extremely emaciated, full of hook and round worms. He is also High heart worm Poss. He is on IV fluids. As of today he is slowly gaining strength, his appetite is improving, his bowel movements are not as bloody as they were the first 2 days. The DR's introduced some dry food yesterday he kept that down. So far so good. At this time we are not sure but, he MAY have to have his right eye removed due to Severe neglect.. The left eye has a very deep ulcer and is being treated. Pls keep Patton in your Thoughts.. If you should see or suspect animal abuse Report to the Proper Authorities. You can remain anonymous... Dogs cannot speak for themselves. It is up to us as dog advocates to stand up for them and do the right thing. If you would like to sponsor Patton and help get him on the fast track to recover, please consider a donation. We are doing everything possible, no matter the cost to try and save his life. No living spirit should ever have to endure the neglect and abuse that he has suffered. If you cannot make a monetary donation, please keep him in your thoughts as he will need all the support possible to overcome what was so cruely done to him.

dirty jobs...

Poop Scoopin' isn't a glamorous job, but hey... somebody's gotta do it! So we sat back and let the youngest members of EBRN do some dirty work. Actually, they fit right into EBRN because all of our time is volunteer and these kiddos actually WANTED to scoop the poop :) From one we heard "Hey mom, I found another one." And the other hollered "Come here, I found some too." Great job guys. lol

As long as there are bullies in need, there will be poop indeed !

Our 2013 year in review

Saving lives is serious business. It's also very costly. Here is a rundown of EBRN for last year..

For the year of 2013 EBRN has rescued 87 dogs. 11 are still current waiting to find there forever homes. Some still have to be Vetted. 3 are Hospice dogs. We have ADOPTED 57 who are in their Forever homes. We lost 13 due to illness. Our Vetting was well over $50,000. I want to Thank All of you who support EBRN. I would also like to Thank All of those who adopted and have Given a Bulldog a Second Chance. Thank You !!!! I hope to bring our intake and vetting costs way down in 2014

New Years Eve Reminder..

While everyone is preparing to ring in the New Year make sure you have a Pet Plan in place. Many dogs are scared of the loud boom and the bright flashes of light. They tend to be very nervous and some even require medication in order to tolerate the scary noises. If you have outside pets you may want to consider bringing them inside and putting them in a safe place. Perhaps you have a spare room or a garage where the animal can be kept so they do not try and run away. Many pets go missing this time of year because their owners did not take proper precautions. While we enjoy the festivities our pet companions feel the need to get as far away as possible. We call this a "Flight Risk." It would be a terrible end to an evening of celebration if you suddenly realized you beloved pooch was missing!

Here are some very helpful tips:

Dog Fireworks Fear Symptoms

A few signs that your canine is scared of fireworks include:

inability to eat,
shaking or trembling,
pacing or restlessness,
seeking close proximity to the owner,
shelter seeking (to hide),
excessive salivation,
heavy panting,
increased yawning,
fear positioning (tail tucked, ears back, cringing),
destructive behavior (chewing or scratching),
self-mutilation (nervous chewing or licking),
loss of bladder or bowel control,
anal gland discharge,
vomiting,
stress related vocalizations (whining, howling, barking),
attempts to escape (bolting or running blindly).

What you can do to help:

Keep your animals primarily inside during firework displays and for a few days to a week prior to and just after the holiday.

Make sure you have a tag with current information on your pet during this time.

If you take your animal outside for toileting or any other activity, make sure they are under physical restraint via a collar and leash.

Leave your pets safely at home instead of taking them to picnics or other holiday events.

Play music or turn on a radio station with soothing music to help mask outside noises.

Visit your veterinary medical professional and ask for aids such as melatonin. This oral neurohormone often provides help for sensitive animals. Use with the veterinarians dosage recommendation and don’t try to do it yourself.

Create a safe haven. If your animal is habituated to a crate you may want to provide confinement for security. Other options you may have available include the bathroom, laundry room, garage, basement, or any other “den” area. The room to choose is one where there are no windows to jump through, or where windows can be blocked off and that are too high and narrow to access.

Some animals want to hide and will feel safe in a favorite spot, like under the bed. You can create sleeping bag tunnel or similar option for them.
